Lucky 13th?
by Rob Seolas
Who says the 13th is unlucky?!—as the 13th annual Fore-A-Cure event was again an enormous success. This year’s event, held September 1st at the Homestead Resort had the usual cast of characters: namely perfect weather, a completely full field, amazing volunteers, a great golf course, lots of silent auction baskets, amazing live auction items—and, most importantly, a wonderful grand total of well over $90,000 dollars raised!!
This is truly an amazing number. Many charity golf tournaments like ours have outright canceled their events this year. Most have had serious difficulties to get a full field in place and the money raised is down by 50% or more. Times are tough, and it took extra effort by many to see us stay on top of our game. Members of the community were willing to help find items to donate, others sponsored foursomes, and many volunteered to be there the day of the event. The result is one of the premiere charity events in the state of Utah. Few events can boast like we can of players from all over the country—New York, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, California, Nevada, and more. This is due to the incredible people we have in this community and the efforts so many make throughout the year to create an event people will return to year after year—even when it requires hours and hours of travel.
Many thanks go out to many people—first, our sponsors: Farmers Insurance as the title sponsor, our eagle, birdie and par sponsors, and all who contributed to this event who are listed in this newsletter. Again, thanks goes to the committee, staff and board of the UHF and the wonderful volunteers of the event, which are truly the ones that make this possible. After an enjoyable fall, we will start planning for next year. I would like to extend this invitation to all to help us next year. We would love to have you participate in any way you can. I look forward to your ideas on how to continue to make this one of the best events around.
On that note, we did have a Utah Celebrity at this year’s event: LaVell Edwards came and played, and he wanted me to personally thank all who came up to him and wished him well and thanked him for coming. He congratulated us on having one of the best charity golf events he has played in, and he has played in many, many of them. He honors us with his praise and in our desire to help the bleeding disorders community, and I honor all of you as well.
My thanks to all,
Rob Seolas
