Camp Valor set sail on the “Cruise to Infuse” August 1, 2011. It was the best cruise any of us could ever imagine! As we cruised around the world, we experienced so many new and exciting things. We got to experience a zip line, swing and ropes course for the first time. We got to ride horses, rock climb, swim and do archery, along with many other things. We also had great medical education this year. We learned about self infusion, how our blood works, and then we ate “blood sundaes,” of course! Additionally, we learned how adults with bleeding disorders made it through school and their teenage years. We got to talk to them about how they are doing now as adults.

In learning about other cultures, we learned about a boy named Omkar who lives in India. He is eight years old and has a severe factor nine deficiency. We all agreed to try to save money this year to help him and his family. Each of us brought home a jar with Omkar’s picture on it. I encourage you to put money in it all year so that next year at camp you can bring it back filled. We will send Omkar and his family the money everyone saves. This money will help Omkar get the treatment he needs to care for his hemophilia.

We also experienced a huge flood at camp, so we really were cruising! The main water line to the camp broke on Thursday afternoon and sent a huge amount of water running down the main area outside of the lodge. The kids loved it, of course. We were without water the rest of the evening and next day, but that did not stop us! We continued on with our schedule and we had the best skit night ever.

This camp was a huge success! We all had a wonderful time and would like to see all of you back next year! The campers this year were exceptional and such an inspiration to me and to all the adults. Being a part of camp has changed my life. I love being a part of something so special.  Thank you to all of those who participated. Thank you to all those who volunteered their time to come and make this camp the best ever!
