Celebrating a Warm Chili Open

Picture
This year’s Chili Open was not so chilly (and that was not necessarily a bad thing). The event began with the traditional dinner and auction at the Grand America and ended with a winter carnival and game of golf at Wheeler Farm. We are grateful to the many members of the community and our industry partners, who participated by making donations to the auction at the Grand America, and those who participated and/or volunteered. In all, through sponsorships, silent auction prizes, raffle ticket sales and donations, the UHF anticipates we will have raised about $70,000 (read more...)

Voices: Never Give Up
by Stephan Graves

Excerpt: I was at the point where I couldn’t even run anymore. I was limping around all the time and my ankles were in a lot of pain. The doctors tried casting them thinking that “immobilization was the key to recovery.” My dad finally said enough was enough. He knew that my muscles needed to be built up in my legs and that my ankles were arthritic because they were not moving from being immobilized too much. As soon as the casts came off he gave me a shot of factor VIII, took me out with tennis shoes on, and we played baseball and football. I hated him at first. I thought he was being mean. I would give up, telling him I couldn’t run because it hurt. He would push me even harder, telling me, “Don’t you dare give up. I won’t let you quit. Now quit your whining and let’s play some ball.” (read more...)

Update from the Intermountain Hemophilia & Thrombosis Clinic at Primary Children's Medical Center

As many of you are aware, because the IHTC is a partially federally funded hemophilia treatment center, it is eligible to participate in the Federal 340B Factor Program. In addition to providing you with a discounted price on all factor products, all funds realized through the “Factor Program” go toward patient care provided through the IHTC. An example of the use of these funds would be to annually fund the outreach clinic to southern Utah….If you are interested in participating in the 340B Factor Program, or if you have additional questions about the program, please feel free to call Susan Earl, MSW (801-662-4557)…to participate in the 340B Factor Program, it is a federal requirement to attend your annual comprehensive clinic visits.
