Last-Minute Reminder to Register for Camp

Calling all Secret Agents, this is your last-minute reminder to register for Camp Valor! The drop-dead registration deadline is Tuesday, June 30th. Registration forms are available on our website. Returning this year are some old favorites, like swimming and arts & crafts, but we are definitely going to mix it up with some new adventures! But SHHHHH, it’s Spy Camp, so I have to keep it SECRET! Take Me Out to the Ball Game

You are invited to join the UHF and friends on Saturday, July 11th for Baseball Day. Once again we will have the chance to meet together, eat, and watch the Salt Lake Bees play ball. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children (ages 2-18). This includes admission to game, great seats and dinner. Tickets cannot be reserved until registration form and fee is received. A limited number of tickets are available and will be available on a “first come, first served” basis. (read more...)

Come Get in the Game at the Junior National Championship

Join us for a day of sports, fun and family time at the 8th Annual Getting’ in the Game presented by CSL Behring on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 10:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. at the Eaglewood Golf Course in North Salt Lake City. Voices: Remembering the Past

I was born with severe hemophilia (factor IX deficiency) in 1975. My mother passed along her father’s legacy and encouraged patience while I dealt with this disease. Growing up, I never knew any kids with hemophilia. Finally, when I turned eight, I started going to the annual hemophilia camp. This camp changed my life. I finally met others my age that also had bleeding disorders. Many a night, we boys in Morgan Cabin would stay up late at night to commiserate and complain about our disease. (read more...)

Why Use a Factor Journal or "Bleeding" Log?

In today’s busy world there is so much going on; it is hard to remember things that aren’t written down. That is why taking the time to journal or log any bleeds and your factor infusions is so important. As the Mountain States Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) team in Salt Lake City, we are committed to providing the highest quality and most current care for children and adults with bleeding disorders. Don't Break the Streak!!

As many of you know, the Fore-A-Cure Golf Tournament has become the primary fundraiser for the Foundation. It has become such by growing each and every year. Help us make sure we do not break that streak. With the very slow economy, we really need everyone’s help in “giving or getting” for the silent and live auctions. We asked for the same last year, but we need it now more than ever. Many of us have direct connections to stores and services that would be willing to “give” or donate items and services to the Foundation, which we can place in the auctions at the end of the tournament. Bike Race Reminder

We are gearing up for the third annual Closing-the-Loop Charity Bike Ride set for September 25-26, 2009 in Moab, Utah. The bike ride committee is working hard to make this already fabulous event even more wonderful. New to this year’s race will be a Friday ride mountain biking the Poison Spider trail and a Saturday half-loop 30-mile road ride (along with the original 65-mile loop and the same start time). There will, of course be the full traditional 65-mile road bike ride around the La Sal Loop Road surrounded by the beautiful red rocks scenery. Rider Support, food and drinks will be provided. A Very Successful Teen Retreat

Take a few dozen teens and a weekend at the Homestead and what do you have? A very successful UHF Teen Retreat! Teens with bleeding disorders, siblings and teens with affected parents spent the weekend swimming, eating, laughing and getting to know one another the weekend of May 1st - 2nd. The highlight of the event was a very entertaining, day-long presentation by our special guest speaker, Shannon Pickard. Shannon taught the teens, through humor, games and poignant life situations that “the choice is yours” – to make your life what you want it to be. Photos from the event are available Online. The UHF Turns 50

There were too many candles to put on a cake on May 30th, but we still managed to party hard just the same. About 200 people gathered at Wheeler Farm to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Utah Hemophilia Foundation. Industry displays, games, wagon rides, bounce houses and great food helped round out the celebration. The most important thing celebrated that day is the friendships and camaraderie that have developed among community members over the past 50 years. Photos from the event are available Online. Reaching Out to Southern Utah

A Truly Fantastic BloodRun!

The BloodRun is one of my favorite events! Maybe it's because I love running and I get excited when I see others get excited about running—there's nothing better than running for a good cause! My goals for the BloodRun have been to provide an opportunity for individuals to get excited about being physically active and to provide a unique way to support the UHF. We had a wonderful event this year with about 300 registered participants. They were able to receive a great t-shirt and wonderful goodie bag. More than half won one of many cool raffle prizes—and that was just the icing on the cake! Photos from the event are available Online. (read more…)
